It's a lot more expensive than a half-price upgrade to ST4, but Omnisphere, the expansions that are continually being released for it, and the fact that it's a synthesizer, are more in tune with my specific needs. Sometimes I just need a certain sound, and SampleTank will have it.
It always finds its way into all of my pop-oriented productions, often working alongside various soft synths. I have SampleTank 2.5 XL (which I guess is the equivalent of "ST2 Max") which I play through the ST3 engine.
